Recommended Itineraries7. Enjoying Premium Coffee in Gyeongju, Café Tour2025.10.20

Gyeongju is a city lined with cafés as distinctive as its historic sites. It’s a place where you can fully feel the sensibility of travel with a single cup of coffee. Today, I introduce a Gyeongju premium café tour that starts from Hwangnidan-gil and continues to Naeryusa.

An approximately 14 km route that starts from Hwangnidan-gil and continues to gabaehyangju, Daereungwon Ancient Tomb Complex, Bulguksa Temple, and Naeryusa. An immersive travel route with a balanced composition of coffee and desserts, historical exploration, and nature walks, combining walking and vehicle travel. A premium café journey that can only be experienced in Gyeongju where a cup of coffee becomes a journey itself. Shall we depart together?

This is Gyeongju’s liveliest street, stretching from Naenam Four-way Intersection to the Hwangnam Elementary School Four-way Intersection. Charming cafés, boutique accessory shops, and stylish restaurants line the path, making it a delight just to walk through. With many photo zones good for taking pictures as alley scenery changes each season, the fun of finding hidden restaurants between alleys is also rewarding.

A café inside a Hwangnidan-gil alley where you can feel the beauty of Korean tradition and retro sensibility in a serene hanok. The hand-drip coffee was a special experience not easily encountered. The special Au Lait Glacé seems unforgettable too. Thanks to the quiet atmosphere, it’s optimal for reading books or chatting with friends. It’s pet-friendly, which makes it popular with families.

Daereungwon, consisting of ancient tombs of Silla kings and nobles, features a dreamlike atmosphere and serene scenery. About 20 ancient tombs connect like ridges, allowing you to feel history and nature simultaneously while walking. You can always see a line in front of the magnolia tree, famous as a photo zone. I could directly feel the essence of Silla culture by viewing Cheonmachong Tomb, which opens its interior.

I revisited Bulguksa Temple, rekindling memories of a school trip from long ago! Designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, this grand temple is a masterpiece of Silla-era Buddhist culture—home to national treasures and revered relics. Walking along a trail that leads up to Seokguram Grotto allows you to enjoy Eastern architectural beauty and natural scenery simultaneously. The landscape transforms with the seasons, making it a favorite photo spot, and the calm, meditative atmosphere offers the perfect place to collect your thoughts.

Near Bulguksa, we arrived at a spacious hanok-style bakery café with a gentle stream flowing through it. Various breads and drinks made with fresh ingredients, especially Isageum brown rice bread and Naeryusa orange, are popular menu items. With its seamless blend of traditional Korean aesthetics and modern flair, the space invites you to unwind over a cup of coffee, restoring both body and spirit after a full day of travel. It’s been featured on television for its scenic atmosphere, making it a great spot for photos too.
