Recommended Itineraries10. Experiencing Art and Emotion in the Ancient Capital2025.10.20

Gyeongju, the ancient capital of the thousand-year-old Silla Kingdom where a brilliant culture once flourished! A city of tradition and art, Gyeongju is now transforming into a sophisticated space where classical and contemporary art coexist. So, I traveled following Gyeongju’s artistic spirit.

Traveling about 15 km through the city reveals a journey where you encounter modern art and youthful energy amid serene historical settings—an experience that lets you feel Gyeongju’s unique artistic atmosphere, found nowhere else.

An art museum where nature, architecture, and art harmonize together. True to renowned architect Seung Hyo-sang’s work, as you walk through the space, your gaze moves between artworks and nature, creating a sense of dissolving boundaries. The mazelike layout of the gallery invites a quiet, almost whisper-like conversation with the art, allowing you to linger and immerse yourself in its depth at your own pace.

Browsing handmade souvenirs and stylish items, it’s a space where you can directly feel the ideas and energy of young artists. It’s said to be a reconstructed bridge that connected Wolseong Fortress and Namsan Mountain in Gyeongju during the Unified Silla period. Walking on Woljeonggyo Bridge after sunset with its soft lighting, you encounter a moment where a thousand years of history and present-day art harmonize together. You can check the restoration process and relics at the digital exhibition hall, and the night view of the bridge reflected on the river from the stepping stones is perfect for capturing in photos.
